First off, don't carry a lot of competing products, doesn't help a **** thing when you have 4 different $600 1000watt amps. Keep it simple in the beginning (not going to be easy since most opening orders are huge).
You should refinately have ONE big name for recognition (Alpine, JL Audio, Rockford), not everyone that walks in the store will know about car audio and with lesser known names, the sale won't be easy. You can also use the bigger name brand to sell off of if necessary "This Memphis 1000D makes 1100 watts at 1 ohm and costs $600 versus JL Audio's 1000/1 that costs $900".
As much high end stuff you may want, you will need 10x more low end product. How many $1000 amps, $600 headunits, $800 speakers, and $1000 subs do you think you will sell? Maybe keep a few for show, and again, to sell off of, but nothing major (unless you are going for a high end shop only).
Be prepared to shell out some dough every quarter to keep minimum orders for each line, this isn't an easy business, and its not exactly booming.
Also, remember one thing, its not what you like, its what people buy. Sony Xplod or Audiobahn may not be what you want, but if thats what sells in your market, it really wouldn't hurt to carry it.
