Ever get the feeling like it's kinda shady?

I've been going around to many of the local Car audio shops here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and if there is one feeling I get going in there, it's like they are all trying to trick you into something. Maybe I have just been running into ill trained salesmen, but they seem to flock to you as soon as you enter and start trying to sell you stuff that you certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone, and they seem to make the assumption that you know little to nothing about any of the stuff. For example, something I mentioned in another thread. I was wanting a USB extension for the Alpine cda 9886, and at 3 different places they acted like it really didn't even have a USB cable at all, (it comes with a short one) but that they could go look it up and that they could probly hook me up with one, for an extra added fee. It occurs to me that it has always been this way, anytime I have ever gone into any of these places. Am I alone in this? Anyone else ever get this feeling? And if so, what did you do about it? You can't really say "Hey, that crap's not going to work on me, I'm a well informed customer."

you can use any old regular *** usb extension...

but I know what you mean. I try to feel out customers, personally. However, you gotta remember that 99% of people don't a ****ing clue what they are talking about. Especially the ones who claimed to "have a full system" years ago but got out of it for a while.

Sounds like they're running a business and trying to sell a customer something. If you don't want to buy it, well then you don't have to.

I know what you mean this shop here is call audioOne and i walk in there and ask for a 250 amp fuse he is like sure here and hands me a ****ing 100 amp fuse and said this is what you need with out know anything about my setup I said no i need 250 i am just one short so then trys to sale me $60 fuse holder from jl and says thats all we carry But the 100 amp was a raptor so i like you dont carry raptor he says this is the big leagues cant ruin cheap shit here so had to wait for shipping and just order online will never go there again

on behalf of shops every where srry

stay informed and let 'em kno it

the good shops usualy stick around if they are well supported

don't get me wrong some chitty one live on, but the ppl who support them prob deserve what the get it's like any retail position sell sell sell

so make 'em earn it stay informed and never try to show off and tell them what they don't kno cuz next time you need a ring terminal or a fuse he'll dic ya just keep it real and hope they do the same if not oh well don't go there anymore (come see me lol)

they are there to make money, that takes making a sales pitch. if they didn't do that how would they make money? Not everyone even knows what they really want/need when they come into a car audio shop. the people that do usually get what they want off egay

Yeah it's kinda like they are still stuck in the 1980's or something, where you had to pull a bunch of salesman tricks and talk the customer into buying something. I guess they don't realize that stuff really doesn't fly these days. After going to all those shops, and talking to all those douchebags, I'll be ordering online now. If they are lucky they might get to make a little money installing something for me. When they could have done good business, if only they had some people skills. Sad. I understand making a sales pitch, but you can do that without making the customer feel dumb and, and making them feel like they are getting ripped off.

this^^^^ i am just a guiding light in the cold dark world of custom car audio lol

buy this ish!!! idon't wanna

I remember once going into a local shop and having the owner treat me like a nub. I decided to have a little fun with him, and after about 20 mins of talking over his head, he offered me a job. One of the more satisfying "lol no thanks" Ive had in a long time.

The whole business just seems kinda shady. Even after you buy all your gear, you gotta worry about getting jacked. The gun trade business feels more solid than this. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
