then you should have turned if it was clear. whats better, a ticket, which you prally could have gotten out of (for turning on a red) or fixing your car/insurance going up? doubt there was even a cop to see that you illegal would have turned on a red. common sense.

Why would he have to fix his car or have his insurance rates go up? He wasn't at fault. Whoever the guys company goes through would have had to fix his car and the claim would go on their insurance, not his. He will be fine and have all the problems taken care of. I mean, I would have tried to move to if I seen somebody coming up behind me fast, but shit happens.

Least nobody got hurt.

Also no, I have never been hit by a taxi, but have seen many taxi's hit other vehichles in New York city and just drive off, lol! The best one was when a Huge UPS truck just side swiped a car that was parked and didn't even bother to stop. Never, ever will I drive through NYC with my personal car. Always the trains......always!

yes, you shouldnt have to, but youd rather obey a no right turn on red, and let the guy hit you, rather than turning if you can clearly see the intersection was clear? if it wasent clear to turn thats one thing, but i stilli would have pulled up a little or moved or something, not juist watch a guy rear end my car.

While OP doesn't clearly state how long he was looking through his rear view mirror at the oncoming van, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he did not have time to react... Or else he would have.

Inconvience...........yes to a point. Usually only takes a drive to a rental place and explain what happened and give them the info and you are driving in usually one of their crappy cars.

Thank you. What had happened is I had just stopped and looked and within a second of looking in front of me to see if the light had changed I was rear ended. Luckily there was no damage, if not a scrape or smudge of the paint on the bumper. It was the reaction time that had failed me as before I knew it or was able to make a move to avoid getting hit, it happened. No one was hurt and there was no damage just a negligent taxi driver not paying attention to the road.

Well to be fair, if there is no damage, then why did you call the Police to make a big deal about it?

I recently got hit by some old lady a few weeks back and I just looked real quick and just a scrap, that can be buffed out. She was all crying and shit, so told he to pay more attention and just drove off.

No sense in making the situation worse if no damage occured.

I had to because the guy refused to exchange any kind of info and told me I might as well call the police so I did. I wasn't gonna take a chance and let this guy come back later claiming damages.

Well if he hit you, why would he try to collect info off you? Surprised he didn't jet.

Also be hard to claim anything if his front end was wrecked pretty good. I guess he could say he was parked and someone backed into him, but I doubt he would have asked for your info if he was trying to get out of it.

Well, the guy gets out sayin he didn't see me Im wonderin, what the hell is wrong with this guy. Ya, it would be very unlikely that he would try to claim anythin with front end damage on his behalf but still, this guy was not paying attention and could have caused a worse accident. By the way, appearance is not everything I'm sure you know this. Some thing could have been damaged internally in my car and for all I know it could present itself on the way home after the collision or the following days.

Good point with stuff happening in the later days. So you are right in what you did, just never know.

When that lady hit me, she was backing out and couldn't have been going but a couple MPH.

Samething happend to my parents in their ride and not much damage was done, but ended up they had some structual damage under the car and thank god he got his info, because it ended up costing quite a bit. Look out for #1, nothing wrong with that.
