Even More Confused...

Hello all...I'm a brand newb to the forum, so I wanted to introduce myself and also get some help.

Even though I've built boxes before I've never done it right. Now I'm trying to do it right. And it's confusing me, so I'm trying to learn...so please excuse the ignorance.

Here's what I'll be using:

2 Rockford P3 slimline shallow DVC 4ohm 10" subs.

I'm wanting to power them with a mono amp.

Here's where I get confused.

One guy is telling me that I should go with an amp that is stable down to 1ohm...that way, depending on the amp of course, I get maximum power to the speakers.

Another guy is telling me that I should power these speakers at 2ohm, not 1ohm because I'll have a wider variety of amps to choose from and the amp will then be more versatile for future configurations...however according to guy #1...if I shoot for 2ohm vs 1ohm I can no longer use my 4ohm speakers and I'll have to get 2ohm speakers...

I'm confused. I want a great sounding system, and I really would prefer to not return my 4ohm speakers.

Help. What kind of amp would anyone recommend?

Don't listen to guy #2 anymore... he's an idiot.
Get a 1-ohm stable amp for those subs and wire the voice coils in a parallel/parallel configuration.

Actually you will have more options with a 1 ohm stable amp and most mono amps these days are 1 ohm stable.

You have dual 4 ohm coils. So if you connect all coils in parallel you will have a 1 ohm load. So you will need a 1 ohm stable mono amp.

He's right, guy #2 does not know what he is saying.

A 1 ohm amp will be more versatile because you can run 1 ohm, 2 ohm, and 4ohm and anywhere in between and higher.

A 2 ohm amp can only run 2 ohms or higher. Dont get a 2 ohm amp

Thanks a ton for the quick responses guys...I'm still a newb at wiring and such, so your help is greatly appreciated.

So I'll keep my 4ohm speakers and get a 1ohm stable amp and wire the speakers in parallel.
