Equalizer Help

Hi guys, so i have a Alpine 9887 HU, 12" type R in a 1.7cuft @~32hz box with 600RMS to it, and i have Memphis PR5's in the front and pioneer coax's in the back all four off of HU power right now.(side question: should i take the rear speakers off completely? or wait until i get an amp then disconnect them? for quality and/or loudness?). Anyways would anyone advise me on the correct frequencies to tweak to get the best loudness/SQ out of the speakers. I have a 5 band parametric on my radio so what frequencies should i tweak to make it less harsh. Also the Media xpander makes everything louder however should i keep this off? or on a lower setting?

media xpander make smusic boomy and muddy......you could keep the rears until you get an amp ( I dont like rears)

for tuning you should get an RTA...that will help

if not, tune it by ear.....I dont know what frequencies peak in your car so its hard to tell you what frequencies to boost or cut.

usually midbass frequencies need to be cut...high frequencies for the tweeters to be less harsh

what are your frequency options?

Ok so i have the 5 band parametric on my HU which im pretty sure will work alot better than the graphic. and i have my sub stage pretty much set with the first band set to 50hz to get the most bass without sounding like crap but can be set lower. The second band can be set to 50hz to 200hz. The third band can be set to 125hz to 3.2khz. 4th is 315hz to 8khz. and last band 800hz to 20khz. Q levels can be adjusted to 1, 1.5, or 3. And all bands have to be 3 steps above each other and the frequencies are adjusted in 1/3 octave steps. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to if i need a "curve" or do i just adjust frequencies separately.

I have a old 1998 saturn if knowing the age helps u determine which frequencies are the problems. I have noticed that the 1.2khz to 3.2khz are fairly harsh unless i lower them a few db's.

unless you have an rta available, you might want to get a hold of test tones and sine sweeps to help you figure out what frequencies need help
