Engine noise

I just recently installed new components and an amp in my car and i got some pretty bad alternator noise coming through the speakers. I'm having a lot of troube trying to figure out what is causing it, hopefully you guys can help.

here is what i know:

-when I disconnect the rca cables from either the head unit or the amp the sound goes away.

-the sound's volume does not change with the volume set by the head unit, it only changes when the amp's gain changes.

- if either part of the rca touches the chassis of the head unit, the sound gets louder

The most likely culprit is a bad ground.

Double check the ground on your new amplifier.

Odds are you don't have a solid, clean connection there.

Also, when you ran your power wire to the battery, did you upgrade the factory ground there? It's easy to overlook, and could also be the cause of your issue.
