Engine noise help

My stereo has RIDICULOUS engine noise. The more I press on the gas, the louder it is. It's driving me insane.

My dad says I need a better ground wire, and it needs to be on the frame of the car. Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be?

Are the power/ground wires wired on one side of the car while the rca's and remote down the other side? This causes engine noise if they're all on the same side of the car.

Yeah my setup is pretty bad, I ran out of wire so I had to use this other wire and crimp them together, it was a really bad wiring job. And the wire I have for my ground is pretty crappy too. I'm buying new speakers anyways, so i'm just gonna re-wire the entire car I think.

It's the most annoying sound in the world though =(

I don't have a subwoofer. I just have front and rear speakers, and an amp for the front speakers. EVERYTHING is wired down on one side. Do you think that could be the problem?? I also have a pretty old car.. 1987 Grand Marquis.

Many expirienced people have told me it is a good idea to run your RCAs and power wire on OPPOSITE sides of the car. Never had engine whine while sticking to this method, perhaps just my luck, though. What the hell, can't hurt to try right? Also, if your wiring is really teh shitty-****job-crimping, I would suggest fixing that problem... Is new wire really not that obvious?

Re-wired the entire thing yesterday.. still had the same engine noise. I'm gonna try running the power on a different side and see if that works.

Myth. I wire my power and RCA's together and then use zip ties to secure them together. Not once have I had a buzz.

There's your answer bud. Crappy install = crappy sound. Do it right, get a DMM and check the grounds to try and get as close to a 0ohm rating as possible.

Again, running power and RCA's next to each other is a big myth.

See above about checking the grounds. This will always be the solution when you have some sort of engine noise. A poor ground can induce all kinds of fun noise into your system.
