countersinking is your friend. also, it's the sexy thing to do.

Its not rocket sience on how to use a counter-sink bit. All you do, is push down until the drill bit stops.

Or just get a drill powerful enough where you don't need to use a bit at all. That's what I do.

Au contraire chevyaudio. Predrill then just drill in tihe screw until it's just past the wood level FTW. Haven't split any wood in at least a few months now. And if I had, then the box wasn't for sale.

i woulnd't recommend that technique.

also , believe there are different types of countersinking bits. if i were to push until it stops.. it won't stop , it'll go through the wood.

C'mon now, I've even told you how to do it without a countersinking bit.

or you can get a nice drill bit w/ the same diameter of the screw you're using and just drill in slightly.

I havent split any wood in at least a few months either. but i havent built anything in an equal ammount of time.

I love my counter sinking bit...it cost me, but I can push with all of my force with my DeWalt Cordless and it will stop at the same point every time.
