get a razor blade knife thing and hold the carpet on the top of the box and just cut along the sides w/ the razor. then glue it with spray adhesive. you gotta use one piece for each side, you cant just wrap it all the way around.

You can just wrap it around. Actually, i would advise against cutting seperate pieces for each side because then you have more ugly seams to look at. The trick is to wrap the box like a present and use hot glue on the edges. If the carpet has a rubber backing take a hairdryer to each edge before you glue it to make sure it streaches all the way. Spray adhesive is nice for large areas, but anywhere you have an open seam, use hot glue or staples. The spray adhesive doesn't take a lot to cause it to come loose.
