A'ight, I'm putting 6.5's in my doors. I'm planning on building fiberglass enclosures but I'm completely new at this. I've read several "how to's" and I think I got the basics of fiberglass, but I'm looking for any tips that some of you more "experienced" road thumpers might have. For instance, I want to tilt the spkrs towards the middle of the front seats to set up a decent sound stage, but how do I build a MDF skeleton to do that (it's not horizontal or vertical)? I can eventually cover a frame with fiberglass, but then how do I get the outside fiberglass to look smooth and "finished?" How will the size of the enclosure effect the sound (i.e. Bigger = Bassier?) Any helpful tidbits would be welcome. Tell me your stories, your successes, your nightmates //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I want all the grueling details. Thanks all!

If you can build a skeleton that would be the easiest way then use a cut out for the speaker mount and attatch it via plubers strapping and for angle.. Once you have all that then use pieces of dowel and hot glue gun to hold it in place..cover with old sweatshirts or grill cloth ....moving on.... afteryou get the first layer of glass laid and start the second get a roller and some MEK ..the roller is for removing air bubbles and the MEK is to remove the resin from the roller after the layer is on. You will want this at least 1/4 think more is better. Hours of sanding is a requirement for anything nice to look at..Once you have it it all smoothed out at least the majority of the runs from the resin... the rest is easier to cover with bondo or some other type of filler and sanding that is much faster..Thats about all that comes to mind since I am still working on my first fiberglass project.

Alright! I'm taking notes, honest. Expand on the sweatshirt thing though. Do you use that as a foundation to start putting glass and resin on?

Thanks again for your help. I'm getting excited now, heh. I'll have to calm back down so I don't rush threw it all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

The sweatshirt is to get the overall form since using fiberglass is nearly impossible to work with this way.. The shirt will stretch enabling you to get the contour you want and no wrinkles plus you dont have pieces falling off. If you go to a craft store you can get it in bulk.. I would really work on the size and design for your actual subwoofer placement or you are gonna end up starting over.. It is actually easier to see what I mean than to explain so If you have ?'s or if I have confused you just say so and I will try to rephrase. In the mean time here are somethings to look at that can help with this project.
