Enclosure Question

Are their enclosures that aren't tuned?

I asked sonicelectronix.com about one of their products (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7509_Sonic+Sub+Box-+2SV12+-GRAY-.html) and asked them what the box was tuned to and they told me it wasn't tuned it was just vented.

No, if its a ported enclosure, it must have a tuning.

That's what I figured lol did you go to that site? I asked them what they tuned the box at and they said exactly:

Dear McCann,,

They are not tuned to anything, they are just vents

And i was pretty sure that vented/ported enclosures have to be tuned.

But its cool, I just wasn't 100% sure though.

And is a 1.8 cubic feet per sub (or 3.6cubic feet total) tuned @ 40hz good for 2 Alpine Type Rs??

honestly id stay away from pre fab ported boxes. get someone on here to build you a box you will be allot happier with the results.

I know but custom boxes are soo much more expensive then pre made boxes.

not really. i typed in my zip it gave me a shipping quote of 52 dollars. so 152 dollars.so if you can find someone local, or relatively close you should be able to get one built for about if not cheaper,than the price of that box you have linked.

One website (MDCustoms.com) wanted me to pay them 200+ dollars for a custom ported box just like the one in the sonicelectronix picture and pay the shipping

hmm kinda high, i got my box built for 80 dollars, no shipping or carpet so if i wanted carpet 100 dollars.. look through the build log section there are allot of good builders on this site. you could PM them and see how much they'd charge. or just make a thread with what you want and they will PM you.
