MDF vs Birch

I want to know which one is a more acoustically dead material? which material holds screws better?

only reason I'm asking is b/c i'm about to do a build and I want to use birch to conserve on weight so I don't have to put lowering springs on the front to even it out.

Both are good but I can never seem to find the birch I like ;\ But MDF really aint that heavy.. depending how big of a box your doing.

weight difference wont be much between birch/mdf - homedepot/lowes sells a white wood plywood, for box building just as good as birch 1/2 the price, it is made from a hard word like birch but the finish is not as nice, you are paying for the nice finish on a birch plywood. now if you want save weight, build it out of 1/2 mdf - brace well and coat inside with fiberglass resin. they also make a product out of fiberglass type material, build box and soak with resin, hard as hell and strong & light.
