Electro voice...

i hate EV's. Everyone in my area uses them. They are trash. They run them full range because they get loud. All they care about is how loud they are, rather than how good they sound. Whats worst is they all drive with their windows down playing throughout the night (i mean around 2 am). It just pisses me off. One of my friends is an "EV Follower" in which i tried to get him to not use them...he's just stubborn and wants his music loud. I have no idea why you would want your soundstage behind you, and the bass (and even midbass) response sucks

EDIT: just went to that kid's sounddomain site...**** right when he says almost everyone in RI has them...Thats where i live and thats all i hear...it just annoys the hell out of me

LOL.....looks like that guy's sounddomain page wasn't lying when he said "Almost everyone has them in Rhode Island... "

EDIT: You edited your post just as I was quoting you, and I didn't see your edit when I posted...LOL

The EV's are not made for near range, eg. a car interior. they are designed to throw the sound alot further that the 3 feet your away from them in your car. the guys that are using them in a mobile application are the ones that really dont give a shit about how it sounds to them, rather if everyone 3 blocks down can hear them. Don't get me wrong, SPL is great, but some sq should go along with it. but then again that is just my opinion.

Here in the Dominican Republic people like Loooud music ....they used to have suv with 15 EV and 6 RCF (Bass). The latinos like spl music so all is about what do you like.... if you like loud music then go with it .. if you like quality sound them buy rainbow, mb quarts.....etc... But let me tell you something if you buy EV's, you can't hear inside the car because they are not for interior music they are for exterior music... If you want loud loud interior music go with Beyma speakers they are pro audio but for interior music.. They have a model call Beyma 6MI 100 or Beyma 6MI 90..they are 6.5 speakers that you can handle 250 rms each speakers.. I have 4 in my suv and they sound loud but they don't sound quality... what I do is put 4 passive crosover and add mb quart Q tweeters and now they sound loud w/details and clean.. But be careful with these speaker if you put it very loud you can hurt your ears so be careful.. They are EXTREMELY LOUD!

you can find more information here: http://profesional.beyma.com/ I hope this help you

I wouldn't even say the SPL is great on these things. Most people use them for midrange because they get loud. Someone actually entered a competition with 4 12" EV's and only metered a 125 or something like that. They don't get loud on the low end. What's worst, is they don't mate them with a horn (which is how they should be run when run in a regular dj set up) They play them full range. All you hear is distortion really. I don't get the allure of them.

125hz at what frequency? that's as loud as 150ish in bass to the ear, if that measurement was anywhere near 2k.

Oh god... Not another one of these threads....

DO NOT USE PRO-PA EQUIPMENT IN YOUR CAR.

IT WILL NOT SOUND GOOD. IF YOU ARE A DUMBASS AND WOULD LIKE TO ADMIT TO BEING ONE, THEN ENJOY YOUR PRO-PA EQUIPMENT...

That is the end of this public service announcement....

No, this was a spl bass contest. I couldn't tell you what frequency he used...but I would assume it was some type of bass track/sine wave. Also, my point wasn't that they don't get loud. Because they do. It's just that they have virtually no low output, atleast not in the applications I see them in.

I wouldn't agree with that statement.

No, don't be one of the idiots with 26 8" mids with 12 horn loaded tweeters.

But there are many great pro audio drivers in the world, and used correctly they can provide great performance in a vehicle aswell.

If things go according to plan....I should hopefully have a pair of 18" "pro audio" drivers under my rear deck by next weekend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Speakers don't "throw sound".

Used correctly they can provide great results in a vehicle.

What about all of those SQ world champions who used pro audio drivers in their installs ?? I would venture to say they know a thing or two about sound quality......

Can someone tell me, specifically, what it is that makes a "pro audio" driver worse than a "car audio" driver?
Ive always wondered the same. Everyone always also talks about "Its all in the install", which has the meaning that the performance of the audio system depends mostly on the way it is installed and setup, rather than the equipment.

If people really followed this, they would know that pro audio speakers can sound good and work great if you set it up right. Cross them over correctly, send them a clean signal, install them correctly, pair them correctly, and you will be just fine.

Another thing that confuses me why the "PA IS BAD! OMGWTF!" is always used is theres no difference. Its a magnet, a cone, a spider, some tinsels, etc. A speaker is a speaker.

I heard a couple EV setups this weekend at a local show. There was a Caddy that sounded pretty good, and a black Diamante that sounded GREAT. Even people who always hated on pro audio speakers couldnt deny that it sounded great. They were both super loud too. There is B&C also, which sounds pretty good and is ungodly loud.

And yes, the idea of having a super loud pro audio setup is so that everyone hears it. Not driving through a neigborhood late at night, but when you're at a big show and everyone is blasting there system, you gotta having something to 1up them. Ill put some pics at the bottom of my post.

Personally, I have Eminence Alpha 6s in my car and Eminence APT-80 tweeters. They sound great and they get pretty loud for about 15rms a speaker. Heres a video of my car. The Caddy and Diamante are at the bottom.

Basically, if you want something thats really loud and sounds pretty good, go with some nice PA speakers. If you just want something with PERFECT sq and PERFECT imaging, and care only about that, PA is not for you.

EV setup that sounded amazing.

EV setup that sounded pretty good.

B&C setup that sounded pretty good.
