I have a 70 amp alternator with a kenwood 300 rms. When i start the A/C , lights and my stereo always show me the car the red battery alarm, i have a new battery, and new alt, what can be the problem? now im going to install the RF P6001BD, i have to install a capacitor? what about the big 3? another think, my car alarm is broken, but sometimes works, i don´t know there, that can be a problem for my battery? thx.

yea. do the big3.

see if it still has this problem, then splash the cash for a new alt. i would go back to the shop, see if you can exchange your alt for a new higher rated one.

if not, try and get a high output one on ebay.

on a side note- does anyone know how to install a new alternator belt? how do you loosen\tighten that belt?

You need a wrench that will fit the idler pulley. Turn it one way and it loosens tension on the belt. The nut itsself doesnt turn, it just moves the pulley. The idler pulley should be preset so you wont have to tighten it.

I wouldn't jump into upgrading things right away, check wiring of your alarm and setup. I have been running a Hifonics bx1000d off my 70amp stock alt for months without a hitch, and my battery isn't even that new (a few years old).

Make sure what you have is set up right, then upgrade if you need to.

Why didn't you tell me that. It took me 2 and a half hours to figure out howto get my alternator back on the belt. Then again, my father told me that they used a special machine to stretch out the belt so I was trying to find a way around that. SOB, stupid dad

Use a DMM to see how much voltage you get to your amp with the car on... then see how much you get from your car without the amp in... If your amp is getting over 13.6 volts you don't really need a new alternator right now... with the other one you will though. It's probably another problem though.

70 amp alternator is probably stock for your stock components.

300W/14.4~12V = 20.8 to 25 additional amps being loaded onto your alternator.

Thats just at 300 watts rms, consider your peak wattage also, depending on how often your amp is creating more than 300 watts.
