electrical problem

i have an 05 cobalt with two 12in type rs in a ported box powered by a precision power amp. when i have the volume all the way up and the subs are bumpin more times than not the subs cut out and the amp shuts off. when the they shut off i can turn down the volume and the amp turns on and the subs start bumpin again. when the amp shuts off niether the short or thermal lights come on. i cant figure out what it is. im thinkin its my battery, electrical or alternator. does anyone have any solutions

would a compacitor help?

Major voltage drop would be my guess, trying throwing a volt meter on the system and turning it up and seeing what your reading are....I used to have the same problem with two type R's on a Kenwood amp, but it was because the amp was overheating, the thermal wasn't showing because it was actually due to the speakers being at 1 ohm, and chance yours are wired down to 1 ohm?

What amp? Sounds like a 2channel and you have it bridged @1ohm. If so that is ur issue right there. Very few 2 channel amps are 1ohm stable.

Check your voltage. U can get a meter at the mart for under $10. If voltage shows to be low then adding a second batt or upgrading your factory batt will help some.

Low voltage will do one thing and that's allow your amps to show u some magical smoke.

No. Only thing caps are good for are boat anchors or paper weights.

Yes this is true, unless you have a 10,000 Farad cap or something it is only a shiny, ineffective band-aid. Here's the common link if you're interested:

If this is your amp, then it says it'll do 1000 at 1 ohm, which leads me to further believe it's voltage drop.

thats nbot my amp..mine is precision power DCX 1000.1...if its voltage drop what do you suggest i do

Sonic says that amp is also stable at 1 ohm. If it is voltage drop the first thing you should do is the Big 3, look for the stickied thread in the Wiring, Installation Help section. That may solve your problem by itself, depending on how drastic the drop is.
