electrical engineering...

Expect no life during the week days. during weekends sleep, more free time and less pressure cause you have a feew more hours to do work.
That only applies for Frosh/Soph. years.

Expect NO life in your Junior year, and in your Senior year you will lose all contact with the outside world.

If you **** at Math, (depending on your definition of ****), then EE may not be for you.

You'll start out with Calc I, II, III and then go into more intricate math courses that also use Physics concepts. If you are comfortable with your Calc. and wouldn't mind putting a lot more work into it even if you are comfortable with it then, give it some thought.

You should also have some interest in Physics too.

What kind of math and how much of it is actually in EE, cause i **** at math
Math is like a weird hyperbole. It starts with simple arithmetic and algebra then goes into calculus which is nothing like algebra. After you understand doing calculus with multiple variables and doing all that, you learn how to use transforms and matrixes to revert it all back into basic algebra. It has that nasty hurdle at multivariable differentiation and integration where you just want forget math. Somehow, I managed to always keep a C in my math courses and understood enough to move onto the next level.

Most Enigeering programs have a dood basis, so their students will learn all the math even if they havent done it before.

Its not that ur bad at math. U proably just never practise, try to learn or and barely study...

theres 2 reasons this idea popped into my head: (1)bc i love working with electricity in cars...most tech's now days will run away from a car with an electrical problem. i was probably one of the only students in my class that actually enjoyed looking for the problems and then fixing them and (2) i love car audio. so what better field to get into then EE?? what i really would like to do is be able to design shit for a major audio company or work in the electronics division of GM or something along those lines.

Depends on the school you go to, but if you're considering EE I hope you'll like being able to tutor the mathematics majors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
There's a reason at VTech engineering is called pre-business by a lot of the students...
Same with University of Cincinnati, Engineering is also known as pre-business.

BTW, I'm in the EE program. It's no joke.

Then don't set yourself up for failure. Unless the idea of modeling a wave function between space and real time using Laplace and Fourier tansforms, DON'T get into this. I have my BS in ChE, but all engineers are required to take the same core mathematics courses...it's NO JOKE.

If you **** at math, don't kid yourself, it's only going to get worse, you WILL get your a'ss kicked, you WILL fail out. If you're no in AP Calc now, I would seriously consider my choices.

i got to thinking today and i found out that after i get out of auto tech school and have a few years of field work under my belt, i want to go back to school and get an electrical engineering degree and eventually a doctorate...i doubt there are any engineers on this site but if there are could u tell me about it. thx.
As many have stated before me, EE isn't something you just "do." I graduated with my BSEE in May 02 from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'Em Horns!), and by no means would I recommend it to someone unless you are SURE you can handle it. And even if you, that doesn't mean you'll make it. One of my best friends at UT was a guy I started with in EE...he had well over a 1400 on the SAT and was the saludatorian of a class of 300...lasted 2 semesters; couldn't get past physics. With that said, there were people much less "qualified" who made it through. They typically had to kill themselves. Thankfully, I only had to study about 1/2 as much as a typical EE did, BUT it was still ****ING hard sometimes. There are some things I didn't get, some things I don't want to remember.

If you **** at math, don't waste your time. You won't make it. If you **** at physics, don't bother. If you can't handle pressure, save yourself some heartache.

As for getting the PhD...might want to take a couple hard *** engineering physics classes before you get too excited. My bro-in-law talked about getting a PhD in EE...only lasted half a semester before switching to ME.

If you can handle it, it's certainly worth it. I work as a Test Engineer for a major defense corp at the moment.

you and i have the same idea. currently waiting to work a couple deals out at my work so they will pay for it, but i've been taking a class here and there, but thats my goal, and once i get my stuff taken care of i'll probably be looking to move to the engineering dept at directv.

Which one? I work at arnold afb...we have those there. We employ a great many ee. However, they are usually contractors and not government civilians. They don't have it too terribly hard.

I started out as an EE. I thought drawing shapes is stupid, plus I hated using the green engineers paper, as well as other small things like that. I switched to finance, top ranked in my class, and I enjoy it quite a bit more.

There will be math in most any field. We don't model waves but we model convexity and duration of bond prices, not to mention Black-Scholes for options pricing. Using business as a method to avoid math is not as simple as that. I am sure the math a quite a bit more difficult, but our math is no cakewalk.
