i have no experience with horns whatsoever, i was just trying to figure out what was going on. from what i hear about horns though and how loud they get i think firing away from your ears might work best for lol.thats where horns go?
the couple to the dash and fire to the opposite sides of the vehicle. youd be surprised. it does not sound like they are shooting at my knees //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
lol VW's all rattle to hell.actually the doors have very minimal rattle. the inner door skin is a 1\8 inch thick piece of solid alu with almost no holes in it. the small ones that were there i covered with aluminum tape. (talking like four 1\2" holes in random spots). and this piece of aluminum is bolted to the inner door frame that connects to the hinges. all the way round the seal from the aluminum to the steel is a rubber grommet between the two pieces of metal.
its quite a solid ****in door. door handles on the outside rattle, and the door locking mechinism rattles a little. ill see what i can do about it but im sure not much.
and george, the horns play (as of today) from 1.2khz@30db to 17khz@12db, and the mids play from 31.5hz@18db to 1.2khz@24db. so yes, they do play the bottom octaves of the midrange. but the horns take most of it for them. active 2 way for the win.
actually, i should be able to use my sisters phone to get some better pics. ill put some up here if i can.
Due to the stunning efficiency of horns, and the dispersion pattern laid out by the shape of the horn itself, they work best off-axis. Those horns (the ID's and a couple others) actually have the mouth of the horn contoured to disperse a great portion of the sound to the opposite side of the vehicle, one of the reaasons they excel at staging/imaging.i have no experience with horns whatsoever, i was just trying to figure out what was going on. from what i hear about horns though and how loud they get i think firing away from your ears might work best for lol.
but like i said i was just trying to figure out whats going on. cause i saw a 8" but didnt see anything for the midrange.
cool. thanks. learned something new todayDue to the stunning efficiency of horns, and the dispersion pattern laid out by the shape of the horn itself, they work best off-axis. But, this also means they are not meant to be aimed straight at you. The big name horn guys will all tell you these days, the best place for horns is down under the dash, as far back against the firewall as possible (yes, out of sight even, if possible) and as far to either side as possible.
Several years ago I even saw (in a mag) an Impala SS with horns installed under the seat, firing up through your legs AT the dash. I dont think Id recommend trying this however.
cliff notes : horns = off-axis
