well my cousin might do a science porject on how a sub's spl can increase (just throw sq out the window on this one) with a different type of box...what i was wonderin is what is a good sub to show a big difference between sealed and ported (in other words the sub really comes to life in a ported box)...we plan on making 3 boxes....1.sealed...2.ported to 35 hz.....3.ported to 45 hz.....

the 2 subs we are dfebating about using is an re8 or an rf punch hx2

we would be sending 200 to the re8 and 350 to the rf

which do u think would show the biggest gain in decibels goin from sealed to ported so the results would be evident...

also one of the constant variables we have to keep the same is the test tone...so what hz would u suggest for the best results to show that the box tuned to 45 hz would be loudest

well the RE8 has 12mm of xmax, that would be sweet to see.

you would have to test and see which hz would be the loudest, all boxes are different.

Unless they are exactly the same.

Id go with the RE since most people dont know what they are

the only thing about the re8 is i dont think it would get as lound as the rf (remember though that i dont care about sq on this)...i think the rf would have a better db score...i know it really doesnt matter in this case since we're basically just comparing how a ported box has more spl but it would be kinda fun to see how loud we could get one 8 and considerin we would send the rf more watts and its a more spl oriented sub i think it would get louder than the re8...any opinions on that

and the reason we're using an 8 is because of box size cuz we are makin 3 boxes and 8's obviously do not take as large of boxes as a 10,12 so on

Agreed.....Rockford charges too freakin much for what you get.

I'd use a L7 8" if you want a drastic change. They get pretty loud.

that was i first idea but a bit too much just for a science project...no more than 100 bux which is exactly what the rf costs...so no more than 100

Cheaper is better. For an FYI, I had an HX2 8 in my truck for years running off an A600 bridged. Took it about 3 years to let go.
