Educated Subwoofer Decision

Hey guys, been reading alot of your posts and cant find one that REALLY helps me.

I am looking for a good subwoofer for my car. I drive a 2000 ***** Am. I have created a box that has around 2.25 CF After displacement and will be tuned for 38Hz. This box will be ported. Problem is all these car audio shops try to sell me THEIR product or just tell me anything sounds good in an FBody. I am going with a single subwoofer and I will spend up to 400 for 1 sub. I am also buying a JBL GTO 1200.1 Amp. Its rated at 1187RMS or more at I believe 2 Ohms. My main goal is I want my vision blurred while in the vehicle so I would assume SPL however I dont want it to sound like crap. Its really hard to pick a sub when they sound ALOT different in the shops than they do in car. Anyway. Let me know on your first hand experience opinions please. Thanks in advance!

Had people try to sell me the following subwoofers

Memphis M3 12 (Havnt heard, heard the M1 10" in a ported box, sounded great)

MTX Thunder 8500 (Havnt Heard, said it would sound good)

Pioneer Premier TS-W2000SPL (Havnt heard)

JL 12w3 (Havnt heard, was inpressed by the 12w7 but not spending 800 bucks)

JBL (Forgot model, Wasnt impressed)

If you dont mind stepping away from the name brand stuff you see in stores look into a FI BL, SI MAG, DD 3500, or a Audioque HD3

DD3500 on yahoo comes up as a Velodyne home subwoofer, can you give the full names of the subwoofers?

The DD3500 looks interesting as does the new version of the Audioque HD3. Theres not a lot of material out there about them. Also wanting a warranty, or a sub that wont blow up on me.I'd like to hit 130+DBs out of my car, not sure if its possible with 1 sub or not, have been told it is. Instead of giving me all kinds of choices, can we narrow it down to, 1 choice. 1000 watt RMS amp, hatchback ***** am, 2.25 CF ported 130s+ DB

Obviosly they must have shown you a bottom of the barrel sub if you werent impressed with the JBL. If you have the mounting depth (10 1/4 inches) i would suggest looking into the JBL GTI. I've got one in my truch on 700 watts and it blur your vision a little bit but with more power it will get loud and sound MUCH better than most doing it. Awsome in a ported box too, kinda bridges the gap between ported and sealed.

The mounting depth I have is about 9.5 inches, cant squeeze much more with the box I am making. Also the max CF I have is about 2.25, pretty sure that JBL would require more than that on a ported box. With those box specs whats the recommendations?

Nice sub but not spending $800 on 1. Any other suggestions? Had 3 people talk about the Fi BL but never really heard of one other than the past day. Anyone you know got first hand experience with one an a camaro/firebird with about 1000 RMS to it?

i think ud be more than happy with a digital designs 3500. Otherwise check out a TC sounds sub. They have quite a few options out there too.
