eclupse avn help needed

Installing a avn-5435

when i powered it up (in garage with power source) everything came on and it would open ect... but its stuck on a screen that says CHECK map disc. i tried inserting a regular cd, but nothing. its stuck. also the esn light is NOT on, so i dont think its that.

do i need that original disc or something to unlock it?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
