Eclipse SW8200

They are sealed box recommended. The 12" requires .5-1.5ft^3 with 1.0ft^3 being optimum. I haven't heard what the 10" requires, however I would imagine that somewhere around .75ft^3 would be optimum.
The benefits are similiar to XBL or the SGLC design of the W7, only in a different manner. Basically you'll get much longer and cleaner stroke with the flat BL curve curve of the LMT design over a standard subwoofer. The result is less distortion and more clean output potential.
Pretty much!

The W7's bl graph still tailed off quite a bit when i measured it on the Klippel. The Eclipse (and Soundsplinter for that matter) Linear motor(s) works by using a variable density voice coil to fill in the missing force by using a lot more wire near the extremities of the coil. So when it moves up and down, you don't get this parabolic Bl over displacement graph. You pretty much get a line from xmax to xmin.

As far as box recommendations, go by what Eclipse says, and as far as how loud these subwoofers go? They have a linear xmax of 25mm and can be pushed to a 3" stroke. Yes they will get pretty darn loud. Power recommendations. 1500 watts RMS into a sealed box is not out of the question for this driver.

Here is a photo of a new Eclipse linear coil (left) next to a non linear coil (right) Note that the wire sizes are different and so are the former heights, just ignor that, I couldnt find two equal looking coils but I think you get the point ;p

Thanks for the great information. So just to clearify things, I know that the BL curve for the LMT's are flat as a board throught the linear excursion range but what happens beyond xmax/xmin? Does BL fall of like a rock as its shows on Eclipse's website were it describes the motor technology? Or does it still taper off at the ends like a normal motor topology would and still have some more usable excursion.

http://www.eclipse-web.com/sw8000/linear.html

Secondly, is there a dissadvantage to having all that copper in the gap, such as below normal efficiency and relatively higher inductance? And when are 2ohm configurations going to be available?

Makes me wonder how Eclipse is selling these things so cheap to the public and why more people arent salivating over these subs considering there potential. I know I am.

1) Actually it still tapers like a normal driver when its overdriven.

2) Ultimately you want as much copper as possible. The disadvantage would be clearance if you put too much. The copper reduces flux modulation created from the voil coil itself. This makes the speaker more linear and consistent (less THD)

3) The SW8k coils are 3 ohms, as far when 2 will be available? Probably right after we release a dual linear coil.

4) I'm not sure how these people are able to sell them on ebay for less than 200. They aren’t making any money at that price unless they charge a lot for shipping, tax, duties, and tip, lol. The subwoofer also comes apart with only 4 screws so replacing a blown diaphragm is easy unless you managed to buy it on ebay! But even I’m guilty of buying stuff without warranty. Its just to temping to get reference audio components for 1/2 off!

good luck guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

rms is 675w on it, why would you want to more than double the rms of the sub?
I believe that may be free air, in a small sealed box I think you can double that permitted the coil will hold up. Also Eclipse would rather you not blow thier subwoofers, lol. Double 600 watts will only give you 3dB more, Its really not much.

I was actually just looking into buying a set of 7000's but after reading everyone getting excited over it I really want a set of 8000's instead. I don't know if I'll have enough watts though. I would put them in a sealed box and have a seperate amp powering the each one. Would the XA1000 (Max 640watts at 2ohms) not be enough to power just 1 of them?
