reconing MTs

should i pay tommy mckinny to do my 4 recones, or you think me and robin could do it (iamamp3pimp)

ive looked at nG's therad, and seeing as how kenny did it too, im thinkin about it. idk....is it hard for those that have reconed MTs? any pointers to not fk it up and have to kill robin to buy me a new recone? hahahaha //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

follow ngs thread? be patient, have a spare set of hands to hold the surround up

maybeuse playing cards as shims if you have nothing else. and use a weight or another smaller sub to hold it in place for a little while until it dries

I dont know about you but I think Robin is capable of reconing. and you use whatever will give you the tighest fit. I know of people that used that celefane(sp?) the clear plastic they use for overhead projectors.

use a manilla folder for the shim,and extra glue dont hurt nothing,just when gluing on the dustcap try and not use any activater and it wont have white residue around it.

and another thing,make real sure to clean the basket really good,and before you put in the recone blow out the gap with a air hose,but before you start cleaning the basket,be sure and seal of the gap with masking tape.

First thing you do when you cut the spider out: TAPE UP THE GAP! If you don't, you will regret it and you will waste a lot of time.

Cutting the surround is the fun part, once you do that you feel confident that you can take on the rest.

A dremel is almost a must. I didn't own one, and I tried using knives and screwdrivers... but when you get a dremel it works so much better.

The spider landing was the hardest part for me, and I did it in a room with no ventilation whatsoever, with no glasses or mask... DON'T DO THAT. Do it outside.

Don't use CA glue on the dust cap. I used it, without accelerator and my cone still got a little white. Just go out and buy amazing GOOP, $5 at Home Depot... easy as hell to work with, goes on clear.

Just make sure your coil is aligned perfectly, because the gap in the MT is really small.
