eclipse making rockford HU's???...

i remember a friend from a local shop telling me that the rockford 9420 HU (the good one with 8volt out and no internal amp) was made by eclipse, anyone heard anything about this? sounded wierd to me, but he was quite confident that it was, i think he heard it from a rep because he wanted to get it (he ended up buying an eclipse, lol).

That sounds pretty unlikely to me, as they're not owned by the same company or anything.

yes those rockford decks are made by fijitsu ten (eclipse)

i believe its only the mp3 line but i could be mistaken.

There are always rumors flying around about company a making company b's stuff, but I haven't heard anything like this from the local shop(an eclipse and rf dealer).

you get alot of that in the industry though. King audio makes the woofer components for many companies. Pioneer, Concept, Fairenhiet all buy the TFT technology from panasonic for their TV screens, etc. Its just cheaper for compaines to purchase it from other companies then spend money on trying to develop it. Remember before alpines iva900 came out? They told me that they had yet to develop a 1/2 din dvd, so thats why they hadnt built an all in one like other companies did. But he also told me, that in the end, they would have saved money purchasing the blueprints from another company, rather than being a year and a half late coming out with it. So thats basically how the game is played

Even IF fujitsu makes them, the overall sound is probably dictated by the design more than WHO makes it.

RF could design it saying "we want the deck to do this, for this amount of money and with these specs" Here is the schematic, build them.

Well, the rf 8 volt mp3 decks look nothing like the eclipse decks. I know RF's MAP pricing on that piece was $1000. The local shop is an eclipse and rf dealer, and they have rarely sold RF decks. To them, they are just way too expensive. The RF 9420 does look like a pretty impressive piece. Sounddomain has it now for $470 or so??

wow, $1000 MAP, i know the best eclipse isnt even that much retail, thats crazy, but i bet it is nice.

RF seems to really advertise that copper plated chassis, is that really all its cracked up to be?

any eclpise radio will play mp3s, except for the lowest, the 3402. 3403 plays mp3s and only retails for 180. All the others you need the ecom advance, but still, you dont need to pay 1000 for an mp3 deck dude

SD does advertise themselves as authorized RF online dealers.

i think i'll wait until after CES, see whats new for next year before i buy a new HU, if there is nothing all that great, i'll keep the clarion.
