Eclipse Headunit...repairable?

Alright, my Eclipse CD 8051 kinda took a crap. It still functions in Aux mode and in tuner mode. But my antenna is broken so the tuner is worthless until I get a trunk without a spoiler to snap off antennas. Anyway, I popped my CD out and the face flipped down out of the way, but wouldn't flip back up. I've been messing with it and I can shut the face manually, but the CD won't play if you do that, it just tries to eject because it thinks it's still open. Fortunately I have this CD player setup as the sound processor for a DVD player so I can still listen to CDs but this is a major annoyance.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get this headunit to shut? Maybe someone who knows about Eclipse units or who has a similar unit? I think the CD 8052 is almost identical if someone has one and can see what it does to shut that'd be a great help. I'd rather not have to replace the stereo, it worked awesome up until this.

If it turns out to be unrepairable, I'll want to replace it, most likely with another Eclipse unit. I don't need an internal amplifier, I run external amplifiers. I also have a DQS equalizer so the EQ features on the headunit aren't important to me. Just six high-voltage RCA outputs, time alignment is the only feature I'd add. Any recommendations?

You don't need high voltage pre-outs. 2v or 4v will work fine.

Kenwood KDC-X692 is a nice headunit, & they're fairly cheap. They have a built-in amp, but it can be cut off in the settings menu.

I'd prefer to figure out how to get the player to close than to get a new unit, that's my first idea. If I do get a new unit, cheapness isn't important I'll go get a fancy new Eclipse or top of the line Alpine or whatever. I'd rather just repair the one I have though, but I have no idea how to make the face close

I sorta thought there's no way that would compare to the 8051. I'll contact them ASAP. Since I can tell from your signature you're an Eclipse kinda guy, if it turns out I'm somehow screwed on that headunit, what would you replace it with? I was thinking the only kinda newer stuff would be the 7200.

The 7200 MKii? Its a deadhead. If you dont have a 4 channel amp you wont get any output from your speakers. If you do then thats a great HU. If you want something older like the 8051 then look for a 8445, 5423, 8454, etc. If you really want to shell out gobs of money for a pure SQ HU then you can spend $1500 on the Eclipse Sound Monitors. Honestly though I can almost guarantee United Radio can fix it.

I'm running an 8051, that's already a Dead head, so a 7200 still works. And it almost definitely would be repairable, I was thinking more like if it was 250 bucks for repair, 400 for a brand new unit, just get a new unit. Especially since the unit has a dead channel to the front right speaker so I have to use the subwoofer/non-fading output for my front speakers. And although I'm sure such a sound monitor would be awesome, there's no way the human ears could even appreciate the difference unless I sound deadened the car to the point where a cannon going off outside my window wouldn't be heard inside lol.

Okay, they estimated 85 bucks to repair it. Not bad, I don't think. I could always go and buy an Eclipse CD changer for just a bit more and use that, but it's still a way better deal to get it repaired then to try to find a similar quality unit

Eclipse will still repair their things as long as the parts allow. When they run out of parts they will no longer take repairs for that item.

I've dealt with many Eclipse head units with a similar problem, in most cases the problem was the flat wire circuit running from the deck to the motorised faceplate. If that's the problem, it's a real simple fix. Usually a reset would solve the problem until the problem resurfaced, always when ejecting or inserting a disc.

I felt that flat wire when the deck was open and thought it had something to do with the problem. I thought the deck used that to pull the face closed or something. So maybe just resetting the deck could make it work again for the time being? That'd be great.

Edit: Reset it with the face still open?

Its for sale. $300 for the HU, GPS105, and the IPC106. The GPS105 and IPC106 have both original boxes and are absolute mint. I could put them on eBay as BNIB if I wanted to. The CD7000 has everything except the face plate case and no original box.

Until that part runs out. They still have to order the parts, but they can only order them until there's no more.

They just have to get them imported. They still have access to them. Eclipse just doesnt carry product in the North American market. Its not like they went under all over the globe.

The local dealer and one of the customer service peeps told me that they will repair them until the parts are gone. Correct they haven't gone under, but certain divisions are no longer and they aren't making parts for those divisions anymore.

My CD8455 reads discs intermittently and was inquiring about a fix. That's what I was told. It's also my understanding that they are no longer in the aftermarket part at all here or abroad, just making things for factory cars.

On a bright side, the AVN6620 I bought just showed up today so YEAY!!!!
