I'm looking around for my eclipse subs and I was wondering what you guys knew about these subs. I think they are possibly last years model or maybe a couple years ago. These are the titanium series so I assume they can take alot but are these good to buy used?

Also, how are these subs overall in sq? I assume they are great but any feedback would be helpful.

One last thing, how much do you think I should expect to pay for these used, but in good condition? thx guys

I would say no more then $180 if it is older then $180. My current Ti is great, but you will get mixed reviews about them.

The TI line of subs is very good, in its own way. They were designed by Eclipse mainly to be used as a small box subwoofer and highly powered. Their key difference from the aluminum cones in terms of sound is that they do have a higher SPL, but Titanium will flex more than aluminum, so they are by default a slight bit more prone to distortion. They can take, and demand alot more power than their aluminum brothers, but remember they are designed to be used in SMALL enclosure, .8 or .9 Cu Ft is ideal.

As far as buying them used, make sure that the cones are still well defined around the edges, titaniums that have been played to really hard have a tendency to warp near the surround after LOTS of heavy use. Also check the entire cone area for dents and dimples, as these are common since titanium can be dented simply by having something hard in front of the sub when playing (a book bag for example).

Price is mainly determined by how much you can get them for, these are a high end sub and as such have a high price tag, but I dont think you would be spending to much if you reached the $200 mark, obviously if they have flaws drop that price considerably.

Hope that enlightens ya a little,

Joel

just to let you know, I have a Ti wanging off of only 90w from a POS Sony home amp, so after break in, recommended power will be plenty, but they can handle double that if applied properly. And I think .8^3ft is a little small.........

Yes, they can handle alot of power, 750 watts is the reccomended continuous power rating after correct break in, in a sealed enclosure. .8^3 Ft. is perfect for the Ti...it, like the new SW9122 is designed for a high power small enclosure setup. You can go bigger with the enclosure but be prepared to lose some of the tight accuracy the Ti is good for if you go over 1.4^3 Ft.

Well, while they do perform well in small boxes, and are infact intended for such, they still hold thier own in a 4.3^3ft enclosure tuned to 25Hz.
