E85 Corvette Z06 pace car.

because in order for E85 to make it as an alternative fuel...we would have to dedicated over 80% of our tillable farmland to growing corn. Besides, contrary to what the governmetn says, independant tests have concluded that E85 cannot produce as much horsepower as gasoline, thus it's almost in insult to use it in such a highly tuned american muscle car. you wanna use it in a toyata prius...feel free..but corvettes aren't owned by tree huggers

Using corn to produce ethanol is fuggin retarded, but that is what we are planning to do.

Corn is very inefficent in terms of how much energy it takes to make ethanol compared to how much energy you get out of it. Switchgrass would be much more efficent and we dont use it for anything else, like food.

I remember reading an article in one of the hot rod magazines (we've got subscriptions to Hot Rod, Car Craft, and Popular hot rodding) where they actually tested E85 in a high performance engine and got asstons of power out of it.

I'm gonna look for the article. Hopefully I can find it online.

truth......only problem is we would still have to dedicate millions of acres of farmland to produce it to replace the petro products currently in use. And on top of that, the equipment used to transport and harvest the crop still runs on petro products. Ethanol is corrosive to traditional fuel tanks and delivery lines so they would have to be completely retrofitted to expensive stainless steel.

plus due to degradation, you can't put ethanol in a pipeline...so it'll be transported in trucks

Have any proof that it doesnt create more hp then gas? Everything i looked at says it does and makes quite a diff... Alowing you to use more timing and boost in boosted applications...

Also corn isnt the only option for ethanol i believe they are looking more for celulosic refining methods as the future... In fact i believe corn witch is already 80+ % of our countrys crop is the least effective way to produce ethanol

im sure you read the article and saw that it is a pace car for the indy series, which runs on a slightly more potent version of ethanol (E100), right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and that the car still makes 436hp. it isnt a production car, more of a "look what we can do" car. ill agree its not exactly practicle, but neither are most of the things americans do.

maybe true to biodiesel....i've seen plenty to support that, but we've been doing some testing in our lab at my job and so far, petro products by far outperform

not me personally, but our chemists
