Dynamat question

If I had a small leak in my trunk from a bad seam in a body panel and I just put dynamat over it would the tar seal it up good enough to keep the water out, or would the water make it bubble up

why not use something else to seal it up like silicon or something like that. Than go over it with sound dynamat.

cause I dont know exactly where it is, its a hard to reach spot and all you can do is feel water on the metal when its wet out so I was thinking on a hot dry day put dynamat all over the area
