DVC subs

Hey, I have always been told that you MUST run both voice coils of a DVC sub, until I read on http://www.adireaudio.com and they said that you can run 1, or 2 of the voice coils. I was wondering if this is true to only adire products, or if it is true to all products.

Also, does running only 1 voice coil have any negative effects on the sub if you CAN in fact run only 1.

Lets say your talking about a 4ohm DVC. That sub can be run at 2 ohms and 8 ohms. You get the 2ohm by wiring the + with the + and the - with the -. If you shut 1 vc down by wiring the + to the - then you will be left with 1 operating vc rated at 8 ohms.

Some please correct me if Im wrong. This will drastically raise it resistance to get power from the amp unless you bridge it down to 4 ohms on the amp.

not true actually you always use both Voice coils even if you wire it in series, let me explain its like have 2 SVC subs inif they are both 4 ohms subs and are wired to the same amp they present a 2 ohm load(wireing a DVC in parellel) but wiring a DVC in series is like combining the voice coils (4ohms+4ohms) the sub will sound the same either way as long as you push it with the right amp. the DVC was created so speaker companys didnt have to create so many different ohm veriaties. you have a dual 4ohm=2ohm or 8ohm, then you have a dual 2ohm= 1ohm or 4ohm, and so on and so on

+ from vc 1 to - from vc 2. then - from vc 1 to - on amp and then + from vc 2 to + of amp.
