I got the "Goop" today and tried reattaching my dust caps:
caps removed:
underside of cap 1
underside of cap 2
in the next two pics i highlighted the area's where the dust cap and cone were never bonded!
sub 1 (large area, the rest of the cap was already pulling off)
sub 2 (smaller area, sub was just making slight chuffing noises)
here's the goop (was a real pain to work with!)
caps back on, held down with 2 1/2 lbs weights //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
the goop was really hard to get where i wanted it. the fist sub i didn't use all that much, so i hope it seals. the second sub i used quite a bit more and some came out the edge, so it doesn't look perfect anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
looks like chad had an off day when he was glueing these //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif also, you can see in the close ups, that one voice coil has the mesh above the ring and one is below, and the mesh's are different styles. the one under the ring has round perforations (looks nice) and the other is just some type of woven screen (looks like crap).
i really hope they work! but i still think i might like to get a pair of fi caps just to be cool (hop on the bandwagon).
to anyone who has installed a regular dustcap (****) on a normal cone (no ridge); did you apply the adhesive to the cap and the cone before you bonded them?
