Greetings.

I have little to no knowledge of car audio. Just loud music.

I have an old Kenwood 640W KAC-8401 (2003) in my 'vintage' (1994) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif yellow Mustang.

Anyways, it's draining my car battery every night so I actually have to pull the fuse after driving.

Any thoughts please?

Works fine otherwise. Popping the trunk and plugging in when I take off just ain't working. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Wiring? Is the Unit just old?

Thanks a lot. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks for the reply.

Everything appears to shut down properly.

It spent some time in the shop and my mechanic figured out amp was the culprit draining the battery every night. Once he unplugged problem was resolved.

is the remote wire correctly connected to the remote output of the head unit? need to make sure the remote turn on for the amp isn't seeing constant 12v from any power source.

I have had probably 100+ mechanics say aftermarket stuff is the issue. Most of these guys do not know how to measure for parasitic drain. I suggest getting a DMM and trying this your self and removing fuses one by one until your meter reads under 50 mA. (Unless of course you can visually see the amplifier staying).

Thx skylineTT.

Copied to ask the local guy.

Something I should mention is I actually live in the Bahamas right now.

It's why I can't seem to find an expert to help me.

Why I thought I'd fish for some ideas.

Thanks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would get a meter or a test light and check connection with everything off...either your remote turn on wire is hooked up wrong or the head unit may be bad...had to tell by "looking" at it versus actually testing connections.

if it has no power at the remote wire terminal, it should not be on. if the "power" light on the amp stays on with no power at the remote wire terminal, the amp is faulty.

Thanks everyone.

Some ideas I'll take to the guy trying to help me out.

I guess I asked for that when I declared myself a noob. I mean the interior side of the firewall which is heat shielded with Lizard Skin.
