dual 4 ohms or single 4 ohms?

hi im trying to buy a ssa dcon 15" sub. it comes in dual 4 ohms or single 4 ohms. it will be wired to an mtx audio thunder 302. do i need dual or single? thanks

I would always get the dual out of the choice of single or dual 4 ohm. You can wire that dual into a 4ohm load, a 2 ohm load or with another dual 4 ohm sub later you could wire them into a 1 ohm load. It is all about options. Go with the dual ohm.

your amp is a 2 channel ,it wont take a dual sub unless its dual 2 ohm or buy 2 dual 4 subs

Um....why not buy the dual and wire it into a 4ohm load? Then if he gets another amp some day in the future he will have options as to wiring it down or pairing it at a 1 ohm load if he happens to get a mono sub amp thats 1ohm stable. Why do you think a 2 channel will not run a dual 4 ohm sub wired at 4 ohm? I do it all the time.

/boggle........he has two ways to wire it as a single. either 4 ohm or 2 ohm, with another dual 4 ohm he could wire them at 4 ohm or 1 ohm.

If i remember right that amp will do around 450 at 4ohms. So why would he buy it and wire it into a 2 ohm load?

RMS Power measured at 12.5 Volts DC:

75 Watts x 2 into a 4 Ohm load with less than 0.05% Thd+N

150 Watts x 2 into a 2 Ohm load with less than 0.1% Thd+N

300 Watts bridged into a 4 Ohm load with less than 0.1% Thd+N

you need a good efficient box. ie: a big ported one.

Sorry, maybe I'm missing something, but if it's a dual 4 ohm driver, that means it's 4 ohm + 4 ohm. You have two options in which to wire that. First is in series, which will give you 8 ohm. Second is in parallel, which will give you 2 ohm.

In checking with SSA's website, the DCON specs even list the Re as 7.8 ohm which is typical when you have a dual 4 ohm driver. They provide specs based on the driver being wired in series. The specs will stay the same when wired in parallel, i.e. 2 ohm, except that Re will change to something like 1.8 ohm.
