Dual 2 Ohm? Or Dual 4 Ohm? Please Help!

Here's the deal... i have a soundstream van gogh vga800.2 2-ch amp. for those of you who aren't familiar with it, here are the specs:

OUTPUT (watts):

200 x 2 = RMS @ 4 Ohms

400 x 2 = RMS @ 2 Ohms

800 x1 = RMS Bridged @ 4 Ohm

i would like to use this amp to power a single 12" image dynamics idmax sub. in order to maximize the amp's full potential and squeeze out the entire 800 watts, would i need the dual 2 ohm model? or the dual 4 ohm?

and how exactly would it be wired (ie. series, parallell)?

thanx in advance,

jd

you would wire the sub like this;

1_2ohmDVC_4ohm.gif

this would be a dual voice coil config with 2 ohms per coil... and bridge the + \ - on the two channels of the amp to get a "4 ohm briged" configuration.

this would produce 800w to the sub.

hope that helps.

What would be the case with the same amp if I hAD 2 XTANT X1044 DVC 4ohms. Can I run them separate at 2 ohms per channel ?
Or you could wire them in series/parallel for a 4ohm load and bridge them to the amp. Either way, it's the same results.
