Although it's a slower connection, most DSL modems allow connection thru a USB cable as well.

ghey dsl? he must have the cheapest one, which is barely even dsl imo. its pos, my uncle has it and he be getting issues too sometimes. Im happy with my att elite plan(i believe that's technically aDSL).
btw when they give you the modem you have to activate it first. you hook it up and then type in 192.168.0.1 or 172.16.0.1 to get into you modem using your browser. then it should take you through some setup steps if you dont have the cd that came with it(although i think you need the cd cause it makes you setup an email account using some code).

Yeah, cable modem def won't work.. gotta have a phone line out.. which the cable modem doesn't have.. they should of gave a free DSL modem

exactly what i told her. now imma gonna have to tell her to get a new modem and a router. it also came with these phone line to ethernet port things and i have no idea wtf they are. anybody know their use?
edit: i also couldnt get the setup disc to run on her new comp which has vista. any ideas? it just doesnt open it, it will read it but not open it. if cant get it to work ill set up her internet on my mac then plug in her router.

not always, recently they make you pay for the equipment if your credit isnt good
att has a modem/router combo that is recomended. i think what you are talking about are the dsl filters they normally go between your phone and phone line, it prevents any extra noise being emitted due to your dsl. what speed dsl do you have if u dont mind me asking. I have always used the elite and been happy w/ it.

depends on the modem. Some can do cable/dsl - but that's usually at the router. But it sounds like your modem is just cable modem. They didn't give you one of their shitty actiontec modems?

its not my internet its my friends. she got it and they gave her like 4 of these little gay phone line plugs and a disc and thats about it. no modem no nothin. i was like, i think att just owned u.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif but yea i think she got the cheapest one.

she needs to give them a call. For a monthly fee or something they should be able to give her a modem. If not she can pick one up at Best Buy or something for less than 60.

you have to buy the dsl modem/router if you want it
the 4 little things are filters that you have to use, and the disk is bullshit...don't use it
