They promised to take care of her son.

The mother of a mental patient who cracked his head on the sidewalk and died after cops shocked him with a Taser said she begged police to protect him.

"I said, 'Please, he's sick. He needs help! Please put a mattress under him,'" Olga Negron, 55, told the Daily News as she mourned her son, Inman Morales.

"They said, 'Don't worry. We'll take care of him.'"

Officers failed to get an air bag on the ground to break Morales' 10-foot fall before they zapped him with a stun gun.

The 35-year-old man - *****, raving and wielding a long fluorescent light bulb - hit the pavement when he fell from the top of a roll-down gate outside his Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment on Wednesday.

"They could have done something better to protect my son," Negron said. "He didn't have a gun, a knife or any weapon. He was just sick.

"I want them to be held accountable," she said. "I want justice."

The mother said her son was diagnosed as bipolar and had suffered from paranoid delusions in the past. His anti-depressants recently had been changed.

"That day, he had an appointment with his psychiatric doctor. I went to pick him up," said Negron, a former dental assistant who lives on Roosevelt Island.

When he came to the lobby of the Tompkins Ave. building, he didn't recognize his own mother and went upstairs.

"He was raging from the window. He was shouting, 'The appointment is canceled,'" Negron said.

Morales started climbing in and out of the window. When police arrived, he shouted, "You're not going to get me," disappeared into the apartment and reemerged *****, first on the fire escape and then on the ledge.

"The police pulled me to the side of the building. They wouldn't let me go near my son," Negron said.

"He fell when the police officer Tased him. He stiffened and fell face-first to the pavement. He cracked his head on the sidewalk.

"I ran but they wouldn't let me go to him. Oh my God, I was begging them, 'Please let me go to my son.'"

Negron, who has two other sons, said she plans to hire a lawyer. She wants the cop who fired the Taser thrown off the force.

"He should be punished. He should have known better," she said.

"My son is gone. He's not here. Nothing's going to bring him back. He shouldn't be a police officer. He shouldn't have a job."

bahhhhhhhhhhhhhh too early in the morning for sappy stories!

sucks for the mother. that whole situation could have been handled professionally. tazing him should have never even been used for the situation.

i am an everyday person, i would have shot the tard along time ago. thats why i am not an officer also. Tazar is a highly effective tool. Tards just cant handle the jolt.
