At this time of year, you watch the weather reports to decide your route. Id avoid going south to texas unless you absolutely have to, it will be an insanely long drive even going the shortest route.

Several years ago I drove from Michigan to Cali. Huge snow storm coming in, so I decided to hop down to I40 instead of I180. The storm went south and packed I40 (I got stuck in a hotel for almost an entire day) while I80 didnt get hit at all.

No, you should not need chains on a vehicle like that. If you do, you made a bad route choice.

It's fucking cold and snowing EVERYWHERE...you sir are fucked. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boink.gif.91933e72f927f2cefc79aff02573090c.gif

Use mapquest, just cuz it snows someplace doesn't mean you're going to hit a storm. If you drive tons out of your way for nothing thats a huge waste. Check the weather
