I am designing a high SQ 3-way front stage for my VW R32 and could use some guidance. No equipment has been purchased yet which leaves me still somewhat flexible. The goal is an outstanding sounding daily driver system with tuning emphasis centered on the driver and maybe not the whole vehicle itself. (No matter how I tune this thing my wife will still like it.) My budget for only the drivers is $1000. Anything less is of course great!
All 6 channels will be actively controlled from an Alpine D300/H701 combo. The tweets and midrange will be seeing 100W conservative with the mid bass seeing 200W conservative from a Zed Audio Leviathan amp.
The tweets will be used in the stock sail panels, the midrange in custom door pods 13" center-to-center below the tweets, and the midbass in the stock door locations 7" CtC below the midrange.
Because of door panel limitations, integral airbag a-pillars, and my total refusal to use kick panels, I am restricted in driver size somewhat. The tweet can only be 2" in TOTAL diameter including flange if any. The midrange is limited to 4" TOTAL diameter. This leaves me thinking a sealed 3" midrange driver would be my best choice.
The only driver that I have chosen is the Adire Extremis 6.8 for the midbass duties. Quickly looking at the graphs shows this driver to be flexible in upper x-over frequency choices with very good low frequency output. Do you agree?
My preferences are for a liquid sounding or silk tweeter mated with a dynamic but accurate sounding system. I usually listen to music moderately loud with infrequent bursts of insanely loud. My musical tastes range from hard/classic rock, dance/techno, jazz, and symphony not in any order.
So. Based on the above specifications and all of your extensive experience, what drivers would you recommend for me? Are my power expectations over the top or not enough? Any and all suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
