Drifting RC's ?

It's funny to have seen this thread, just about 2 weeks ago, I almost bought a RC Drift car. Had all the parts I planned on putting on it, the total cost was going to be like $400, but I said Fook that, Iam gonna fix up my real car a little bit.

I seen people do some crazy stuff with those Xmods from radioshack, but nothing like the high end RC's. Can't remember the name of the one I was going to get //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Oh yeah, i remember now, they were called Mini-Z i was gonna get the awd skyline and put new parts and stuff

Kyosho mini z . I just started racing 1/18th last season . These little sob's are pretty fun flying around the track //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Naw ramos, 1/18 is THE best of them all. When I worked at hobbytown, me and another one of the employees took a mini-t off the shelf one day, took about 500 in parts over a few months time from the cabinets and built it into a full aluminum and carbon fiber component chassis car, with some retardedly priced cells that I can't recall and a monster baja motor (the baja is ****in quick, the monster has like 3 less turns IIRC). That shiz went to 45 mph and could corner on a dime. Well, that is if it didn't flip over. Losi pink compound tires in the rear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

One of my mini -t's is lipo powered and has a mamba 8k in it . To be honest, it's kind of pointless . The **** thing is so fast you can't run it on a track. I can pass 1/8th scale buggies on the straights with it . But get pwnt when it comes time to turn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes, but can it put up a 140 on the TL? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif :) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Give me a 100' head start and let me run head long into the sensor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif Sensor overload //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You don't just "get" one of them. Trust me on this one as I've run on-road, off road, track and oval cars from most of the names out there (associated, traxxas, hpi, ofna, kyosho and losi just to name a few). The key to an RC drifter is you are going to want it to be electric, as nitro has an actual powerband and you cannot sustain a fluid increase in throttle to control the angle. You'll want to have ABS or PVC tires (abs is better, has more grip), hard springs in the rear and soft in the front. 4WD touring cars are best, my electric TC3 was set up for drift until I sold it a few months ago. Your motor should be neutral on the turns, as lower turns won't allow you to apply quick bursts of throttle like you need to alter your angle, and higher turn motors are usually shitty. Beyond that, it just takes forever to get it done properly, and even longer to master the technique.

That makes sense. Electric cars have instantaneous torque to get those tires spinning and have a smooth powerband. I used to do that kind of stuff with my T2 associated truck in the dirt. My fish tales weren't that radical that I recall. Isn't the tC3 4 wheel drive? I'd think it would be difficult to kick out the rear of that car. I could be wrong I've been out of this for a while. I think the TC3 prototype was coming into existence right as I stopped messing with it.

Yep the tc3 is 4wd . 4wd makes for controllable drifting. Once you get the arse end out sideways, you got the front tires still pulling you forward //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
