Downshifting question.

its ok to do that but the more you easily release the clutch like that the faster you wear the clutch out. the less time you spend on the clutch pedal the longer your clutch will last.

the more you bang on it the faster you wear out universal joints

Ugh. Rev matching is what I would like to be explained.

like when shifting from 4th to 5th, you go from say 4000rpm to 2500rpm,

well just the opposite....go from 5th at 2500 and when the clutch is on the floor press the gas to bring the rpm to 4000rpm for less wear on the clutch

think of it this way intrepid your in 5th doing 50 mph turning 2500rpm. when you drop down to 4th you know your gonna be turning more rpm say 3500 for example. well before you release the clutch you rev to the 3500 and quickly repeat quickly release the clutch pedal. if it is done correctly the gear change will be seamless and smooth as butter. It takes a long time and practice to get to know your car well enough to do it!

dman none of what i am telling here will wear u-joints out any faster. the way i am explaining will cause less wear and tear than the normal way people drive. everything i am telling if done correctly would be seamless just like driving and automatic.

the whole point of the downshift for acceleration is to get the engine rpm into it's power band

the way you do, but for someone that does not know how to drive a clutch correctly will just drop the clutch....this is very hard on uv joints

I am an anti-automatic person i cant stand them. i have had nothing but bad experiences with them and my wifes current car is an auto and its about to go out. Id much rather replace a clutch then have to pay for a auto ****** rebuild. By the way a clutch is designed to last the life of the vehicle. been on the same clutch in my car for 6 years.

i never (rev match) if im going down the road in 5th and want to go to fourth i just put it in fourth and slowly let out the clutch while starting to accelerate.

fuck that shit! I normally throw it into fourth and gun it.

I agree completely for daily cars, but I have a drag car....it is an auto

o yeah dman i understand. theres alot of people out there like that. People are just lazy and wont take the time to learn what there car can and cannot do. now if im in a peterbuilt then the clutch well its only used to take off!!!!

definitely an auto is great for the track if properly built. very consistent.
