Downgrading sub in regular cab

Hey all, this may be lengthy but I am kind of particular about what sound I like and the audio shop doesnt open until Monday and even then I am hesitant about wearing out my welcome.

This post could all be worthless because maybe my equipment needs to break in OR they will not deal with my used equipment.

I have a 2003 Silverado regular cab. It has two seats that slide and a middle non-sliding non-console seat. 6.5"s in the doors (Pioneers which were there when I got the truck about two years ago). The rears (behind my head, I dont know what you would call that area of placement) 4X6"s of unknown.

In October I got a Kicker system bought and installed locally. A Clarion CZ505 that has been great. It runs the rears. On the front RCAs (going to the doors) is a KX200 which claims 50x2. On the sub out have a KX1200 on a L7 Solobaric 10" with a grille in a factory loaded enclosure sitting behind the passenger seat. The seat wont go all the way back anymore, but you really cant tell anything is there.

Ok, with the preamble having been spoken- here is some concerns I have.

I have not touched the amps at all. They were set up by the installer and are in such a position that I cannot even view the settings. I have a bass knob under the dash. This could all be hogwash because I remember about ten years ago I had some MA Audio 12s that sounded terrible, but then one day I started to enjoy them as they had deepened.

Right now, it seems my square ten is making noise most of the time on bass tracks. It sounds quite good on radio music- but I dont buy subwoofers for radio music I get them for bass tracks. On bass tracks, sometimes at a low volume (about 15 on a 0-40 scale) it will sound really good. Then I dont know if my ears are getting fatigued or the sub or amp gets hot or out of shape, but it just sounds BAaaaaD. Its not a distortion sounding bad- it just simply isnt a pleasing sound to my ears.

I am hoping it just needs to be gradually worked up volume-wise and will become a hard hitter. The bass I crave is an omni-directional smooth, mellow tone that kind of wallows but will take you to pound-town with a turn of the volume knob.

The only time I have ever been contemt with my system was when I had a For Aspire 4dr hatchback. It had a USAmps US-200 going to my cousin's 15" Cerwin-Vega Vega series double bump red surround. We drove one mile around the block and I let him have the volume control so it would not be my fault if it popped. I was so happy with that sound I loved it. And when we got back to unhook it- the license plate light holder had fallen off and was hanging by wires.

So, do you think I put up with the L7 10" and enjoy it every now and then when it sounds good for a few moments hoping it will break in and go to town one day and stay there? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OR I am looking at other Kicker items.

When I got my system I was interested in the KX line of amplifiers, but I think they are not so good now. My first system I had back in 1997 in a Mazda RX-7 was a Image Dynamic 12 on a Crossfire 200 watt and I had a Kicker Impulse 35x4 for the highs. That four channel later went on other systems and sounds just lovely. But the Kx line didnt have a four channel- and I figured you want more sound from the fronts anyway. But now I am looking nto the CX line. I could get all four speakers hooked to a four channel and maybe it would sound better. Right now I have my fader to about rear 4 out of 7. If it is left central, then the door speakers would be so loud at volume ten, the sub wouldnt sound right and I can barely hear the rears. Im thinking the sound system doesnt like to play off-axis and would much prefer central L to R and F to R.

And also, Kicker has a new Comp C out in a loaded enclosure. It looks great and they speak very well of it. They say 300RMS and 600Max to the loaded 10". They have two, a single 4ohm and a single 2ohm. They say it is tuned and very efficient and will play low and loud all day.

So, I am thinking that I would like to have the CX 40w X 4 amp on my fronts and rears. A 600w CX amp on a Comp C 10". The description on the CX amps day they use the absolute best internal components and have great heatsink abilities. Also, I noticed the way they were arranged made me think they were a better amp. The RCAs and all processing was on one side, then the power, ground, remote, and speaker (all power wires) were on the other side of the amp. The KX is not wired like that. The CX and DX amps both are, where the signal stays on one side and the power on the other.

Then there is my love for the 15" subwoofer that I spoke of earlier. Is there any point of a fifteen in a single cab truck. I loved itn a hatchback-but I know acoustics can alter sound alot. I dont want to get set on a fifteen and have it not even produce sound because the cabin isnt shaped right or have enough volume. Kicker has a new regular Competition 15 subwoofer that is 250/500 watt and goes down to a 2.25 sealed enclosure and they say it works great on a DX500 amplifier. I would just need a box.

My initial plans that I had for the longest time were to have my single cab truck with my US200 amp wired to an old school round (the first ones from the 1990s) 15" 2 ohm small sealed- but that plan fell through.

I am kind of upset about this because I hate buying the wrong items. I dont want to live with something I dont like or enjoy and I dont want to throw it away and waste resources or the guy's labor who built it- so I try to buy it right the first time and that be it and never buy it again.

So, would I offend the shop owner by asking if I could trade my used equipment in toward some other equipment that will hopefully be better for me?
