Ok, so here's the deal. I am building a down firing box to go under my back seat and I was wondering if I need to cut an opening below the woofer on the sides of the box to let the sound escape or if it will even make a difference if I leave the sides solid? Any help is appreciated guys.

Yes you will need to cut something out to allow the bass to escape. Also if I remember right you need to keep either 1/4 or 1/2 of the subs diameter away from the floor. Example: If the sub is 8" you will either need to keep it 2" or 4" off the floor. I'm assuming this is like a home theater sub box, but in a car. I did one like that in a boat last year. Sounded great.
