Down firing or rear firing??

So building my box to go in my GTO, its going to be hanging from the rear dash with the round port firing out the single 6x9 cutout in the center. Should I rear fire the sub or fire downward?

I've heard a couple of rear firing setups with the box hanging from the deck like that...have you thought about doing both to the rear?

Thought it would probably sound better with the port through the 6x8 cutout. Am I wrong?

So as L_CRX mentioned, is rear sub, side ports going to give me the best sound? It is for my GTO so no comps just want a decent sound. I figured with hanging the box against the rear deck having the port fire out of the 6x8 cutout would be best.

How would I get cancellation by firing out the cutout?

I would turn the subs toward the cab

... And keep the port firing through the 6x9 cut-out

holy shit, so now I get another recommendation....lol.

So options are:

rear firing, port towards the 6x8 cutout

forward firing, port towards the cutout

rear firing, port side firing.

Need opinions

Number 1 is a definite " NO "

... Why would you want your subs pushing air DIRECTLY in the port.... ( Gonna sound like a tunnel )

Nissan, How would it sound like a tunnel? Just not really understanding the difference between sub firing rear or forwards if the port is firing out the cutout.

I say face the subs towards the cabin...

I ALWAYS face my subs toward the cabin - it's punchier and the spl goes up a tad bit due to shorter distance.

( even though you aren't goin' to any comps )
