Double DIN touchscreen NAV and iPod search

Doing research on which NAV unit to get. I'd love to have something that can play DVDs with minimal hassle, but the biggest use will be playing the iPod. One issue I have had with my old Pioneer HU is that searching for Songs or Artists takes forever because the HU doesn't jump to individual letters. When I put a new HU in a cousin's vehicle it did have that capability.

So, I ask, can anyone explain how these double DIN units work with iPods? I'm not looking to spend more than 400 or so, but I'm not afraid to go after used equipment either.

What I want to know is this... how well do iPods work with the Pioneer AVICs?
