double bass??

sealed = guarenteed nice n tight,
ported = might sound chit.
listen to a system with an overall q of .5 or so, tell me how tight it sounds, please.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif It's all install depended, if your sealed box is large, it's going to sound boomy unless your sub has very lfe by design.

q of .5 what is that
It's the alignment for the sub and enclosure system. .7 is considered the max flat alignment and usually gives a smooth response with flat low end. The lower the q value, the more low end you get but you also get higher group delay which can make things sound muddy. Lower aligments also start to get more boomy and have an aparent loss in the upper bass frequencies. Their power handling is also decreased due to mechanical limits. The higher the q value, the less low end you will have and you will create a peaky or boomy sound in the upper bass frequencies.

If you want to RSD to sound nice, don't port it. That sub looks like it would be pretty peaky ported. I would put it in about 1-2 cubes sealed. That should give you a nice response from that sub with a good amount of low end.

I've always found .8 or .9 to end up being pretty flat once you factor in cabin gain. .7 always ended up a bit bottom heavy for me.

There is some nice double bass in Tools - 'Right in Two' off the new 10000days CD
skip to 6:24 and it starts there but at 6:44 is when it gets nuts
If you like that, check out Fear Factory's Slave labor and Drones.

That's true for some subs. My av12 was a little bottom heavy in the butterworth alignment but my w6 clone was silky smooth with an alignment a little lower than .7. The alignment I would recommend for the RSD would be in the .9 region, maybe a little higher. It has a pretty **** low F3 so it should do well in higher alignments.

I remember those w6 clones, the ones on ebay a year or so ago? My avalanche was similar, I've got it in a .9 box right now, which I like. I tried to add polyfill help simulate a slightly bigger box, didnt' like it so much.

Yep, $40 shipped from buy.com. I gave it to a friend and now we're going to be building a TL for it and using it in a home theatre setup for a mutual friend of ours. That sub was well worth the $40 I paid for it and still one of the best sounding subs I have ever heard. If it was a little bit louder, I would have it over my av12.

you guys are retards i listen to pretty much nothing but metal with double kicks and have a ported type S in 1.5 cf tuned to 32

it have not hit as ''fast'' or responsive as a sealed but its close and the extra output......is worth it in metal to keep up with your frontstage
