Are double baffles worth it?

do you lose the benefits of a double baffle with flush mount?

I think this might be the box I will build... (sub firing up)

or possibly this...

the problem Im running into is that Im afraid that if I mount it on top of the second baffle is that the surround will hit the cover over the rear hatch space. I would just take the cover off, but I may be going to college in atlanta next year and I dont want people to see my stuff. If the double baffle doesnt make too much of a difference or if flush mounting it diminishes the advantages of the double baffle, I was just going to do one.

if your box flex's at all you are losing sound waves in turn you lose sound coming out of the box.the stronger the better

I'd double baffle if ur gonna go with either designs.. If not then at least 2x4 or all thread.. Also you can still flush mount on a double baffle you'll just have 3 pieces of wood there

Also if ur worried about the sub hitting the top of your trunk then just make the box .75" shorter and it will be the same height if you were to use a single baffle

cant go any lower. 26"x30" are my max dimensions for the base of the enclosure. If I decrease the height I have to decrease the volume and raise the tuning, and its already going to be tuned a little high anyways. I dont really want to mess with that

You could if your all out of opions build a double setup but make the bottom baffle .75" shorter all the way around so that it will be inside the box and still be the same height but will just lower internal volume a tad. I'd imagine it would work tho.

double baffles are more for holding the weight of heavy subs than stiffening the box.....bracing is better than double baffles for stiffening the box

Countersinking my subs I ended up with a 1.25 face. I broke the single baffle screws,glues,and all.

not on a top-firing box!!!!

If you want more bite for your choice of fasteners, put an internal MDF ring inside the top piece

a brace like this is what i used on my last box:

i would had gone double baffle but i didnt have the wood. as for the subs ripping out of a single baffle. when i am careful its fine, otherwise just use t-nuts. threaded rod is also an option.
