So I've been struggling with speaker bracket issues on all 4 doors of my 2013 Lexus GS350. For a while I had annoying rattles and buzzes coming from around the speaker area of all the doors especially with midbass. I ended up applying foam on every clip, and adding cloth tape to secure them in the plastic holders. My Metra brackets from amazon had foam gaskets on the mounting to door side, and speaker side, along with fast rings.
I then added secondskin deadening material onto the metal door surface where the speaker mounted. It was shortly after doing this that I realized the brackets where too large, with the surround of the alpine speakers and the door was actually being blocked from properly clipping and sealing, causing all the clips to vibrate and the door panel to vibrate from always touching the speaker.
I then got a free trial and modeled brand new 3d printed brackets for each door, the brackets were .75" tall, and have threaded inserts and bracing. This size accounted for the deadening material, speaker gasket, and the thick secondskin butyl rubber gasket that goes in between the bracket and the door. I know the deadening may be extra, but others go even crazier with it.
Anyway I did the rear doors first, the rear passenger went on smooth and clipped fully into place, I hear no rattling or buzzing so far. The panel is now secure. However when putting on the rear driver side, everything was exactly the same until it came time to put on the door panel. I was struggling so much trying to get it to clip, it was even pushed out further than before. Finally after replacing some old clips with new ones, and tightening down the speaker a lot, it finally fully clipped. It was being stubborn and kept popping out, but one good whack got it on good now.
I'm wondering if heating around the area would allow me to put a lot of pressure and try to deform the speaker area of the door more to give some extra clearance since there is still a very slight buzz from that door.
What are your guys thoughts?
Theres my setup on of the driver rear door, you can see a slight gap between the bracket and the door, but it is sealed with the butyl rubber gasket tape, I tried to smush it down as possible, thats the most it would go, and now, it wont come off no matter how hard I pulled, I almost broke the brackets. (The residue around the speaker is from the old foam ring) The other photo from google shows how the GS door panel looks and how they molded the grill into it.
