Door speakers cutting out when I connect the amp.

I've been trying to connect an amp to my 4 door speakers on a 1996 dodge stratus. The speakers are 65 watts each and the amp is 800 watts( mtx audio elite thunder 404), but when I connect the speakers to the amp the sound cuts out. If I leave them connected for too long, it burns out the stereo, which already happened and I had to replace the deck yesterday. So I was wondering if you guys could help me out and tell me what is going on or what I am doing wrong.

h/u >>>>>>rca's>>>>>>amp>>>>>>speaker wire>>>>>speakers

is that the way you have it?

just asking cuz i had a customer with similar issue and he had the speaker wires hooked up to the amp and the h/u

I have it connect it like this h/u>> rca>>>to amp, and speaker wire to amp but when i try to connect only the positive wire speaker to amp the speakers cut off, its only one speaker that im trying to connect, just to test it.

check all wire to make sure there is not a dead short ( wire grounding out )

also be fore hooking up speaker wires check rca's unplug frm h/u (leave other end in amp) and use dmm to see if any dc voltage is present if so amp is broke and in need of repair

what you mean a death short? or wiring grounding out?, i check the cable from speaker it seems to be connected alright it stills cut out? its weird kus if i connect negative only it cuts off same with positive i cant even hook positive or negative kus it will burn my stereo again the amp turns on short light if i leave it for 5 seconds.

What exactly is burning out....

Try taking a speaker and hooking it up directly to the amp in the back not the speakers in the door with a foot or so of speaker wire and see if. U have the same problem

I tried doing that and I noticed that my stereo powers off, and the speaker cuts out for about 2 seconds and then the stereo and sound come back on , i also disconnected my speakers from h/u and left the negative connected and i try to connected to amp and it still cuts off my other speakers, but the positive didnt seem to affect when try I to only connect to amp. I also disconnected the RCAs from the amp, and the stereo powers off, along with the speaker for about 2 seconds and then they both come back.

If u unplugged the rcas there should be no sound period...

How is the ground on your amp and where are your gains set for this amp.....

First thing first disconnect ur batter and then disconnect the ground on the amp and re located it to another spot

Also do u have any pics of the amp area and the connections for it?

well the rca were disconnected and yes their were sound from my 6x9 and front door 6x5 , the negative on the amp is connected on the trunk holder screw btw the ground is a piece of wire use to connect a home radio ? and the gain is set to lowest every thing is set to lowest incase i burn my speakers,

I'll a post a picture up tomorrow so that we can go on from there and see if I did the wiring wrong, cause Its dark outside and there isn't any lighting so I can't take a picture. I appreciate your guy's help though.

I haven't bought a wiring kit so I just grabbed an electrical wire from a lamp and clipped the ends, could this be the reason why?
