i have expaning foam which i used in the trunk and it made a noticeable difference in removing rattle. i have the door panels off the car and was wondering if i sprayed the back of them with expanding foam and then used a razor to shape it, would that act as a sound barrier even though its foam and not that thick?

Filling the voids in the trim panel with expanding foam will make the panel more rigid. It might reduce some rattling but it may also introduce some squeaking. If you spray the foam and let it cure for a day before you trim it you will be fine. It won't do much at all to block sound.

x2 on the windows.

The windows need to roll down and have room to do so. Anything in the way of that will cause stress on the window motor.

So if you try to trim the foam, and it ends up expanding later on, you may not notice it rubbing against the foam.

Also, sometimes water gets into the door from the windows. So make sure if you do go that route, the foam is waterproof.

But I would recommend a sound deadener instead.
