Okay, not reading much of the thread....this is just my personal take.
When Katrina hit, gas prices went up nationwide because the hurricane hit some refineries or something like that. Here in Tulsa, the prices spiked an insane amount.
What i don't get...Oklahoma is a huge oil producing state. We have some of the cheapest gas because we produce it ourselves...pretty much all domestic fuel. We even have our own refineries...one not more then 10 miles from my house. So why the hell did my gas spike nearly a dollar when my fuel supply was not effected...at all.
My first guess was that our oil was getting moved to other states to even it out....but from what local agencies have said, very little fuel was transferred to other areas, so little that it should not have made a single penny difference in price.
Oil companies are evil.
