Dont Pump Gas on May 15th

i believe jman just did for me. also the oil companies have more in pure profit, in 1 period, then most countries gross in an entire year. upwards of 30 billion dollars in pure profits in one period
In recent decades the government has collected far more revenue from gasoline taxes than the largest U.S. oil companies have collectively earned in domestic profits. In fact, since 1977, there have been only three years (1980, 1981, and 1982) in which domestic oil industry profits exceeded government gas tax collections. This does'nt even include corporate taxes on the companies income. From 1977 to 2004, federal and state gas tax collections have totaled more than $1.34 trillion, more than twice domestic oil industry profits during that time ($643 billion). Not to mention the fact that the oil companies re-invest 10's of billions of those profit dollars back in simply to maintain the industry.

ok that has nothing to do with the oil companies cutting off the supply to increase profits that are already extreme, but ok.

ExxonMobil has added 384,000 barrels per day of refining capacity in the United States over the last 10 years. The average refinery size in the U.S. is about 125,000 barrels per day, so that means we have in effect built the equivalent of three new grassroots refineries over the last decade.

According to Energy Information Administration, the following refineries were shutdown between 1995 and 2001:

Year Refinery Location

1995 Indian Refining Lawrenceville, IL

Cyril Petrochemical Corp. Cyril, OK

Powerine Oil Co. Sante Fe Springs, CA

Sunland Refining Corp. Bakersfield, CA

Caribbean Petroleum Corp. San Juan, Puerto Rico

1996

Tosco Marcus Hook, PA

Barrett Refg. Corp. Custer, OK

Laketon Refg. Laketon, IN

Total Petroleum, Inc. Arkansas City, KS

Arcadia Refg. & Mktg. Lisbon, LA

Barrett Refg. Corp. Vicksburg, MS

Intermountain Refg. Co. Fredonia, AZ

1997

Gold Line Refg. LTD Lake Charles, LA

Canal Refg. Co. Curch Point, LA

Pacific Refg. Co. Hercules, CA

1998

Gold Line Refining Ltd. Jennings, LA

Petrolite Corp. Kilgore, TX

Shell Oil Co. Odessa, TX

Pride Refg. Inc. Abilene, TX

Sound Refg. Inc. Tacoma, WA

1999

TPI Petro. Inc. Alma, MI

2000

Pennzoil Rouseville, PA

Berry Petroleum Stephens, Ark.

Chevron Richmond Beach, WA

2001

Premcor Blue Island, IL

These refinery closures took more than 830,000 barrels per day of refinery capacity out of production.

Refinery Capacity Lost Due to Refinery Closures Between 1995 - 2001

1995 191,750 bbl/cd

1996 268,750 bbl/cd

1997 87,100 bbl/cd

1998 123,650 bbl/cd

1999 51,000 bbl/cd

2000 25,700 bbl/cd

2001* 80,515 bbl/cd

Total Capacity Lost: 828,465 bbl/cd

And why are refineries closed? Today for example, the number of refineries less than half that of 1981 but, total distillation capacity is only down by 17%. Utilisation rates increased from 66 per cent in 1982 to over 90 per cent in the late 1990s and, while distillation capacity has declined, output has increased in active refineries. Big Oil and the Big O can't control the price of oil, even though OPEC really, really wants to. Oil prices are set by supply and demand in a global market. Many people think OPEC controls oil prices, however, for at least three reasons:OPEC certainly acts like it sets the price of oil. It holds meetings and issues press releases and sets "quotas" for its members. Oil prices often go on bumping up and down like OPEC never existed. Any producer big enough to manipulate the market by slashing production can't benefit from the resulting higher price. And any producer big enough to crash prices by increasing production will suffer from doing so.

Don't believe everything bill orielly tells you.

I dont know how krisfnbz can gain up to a 100 miles just from switching from regualr to plus or prem, but whatever I guess. I have tried Premium in my Focus ST and I have yet to notice a difference and that is with spirited driving, but I drive the same way with regular and I have noticed no difference what so ever. Now my Eclispe I have to run Premium because it is what is said to use and it cost me an arm and a leg. I spend close to 45 bucks to fill it up at about 3.05 a gallon. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I spend 30 bucks in my Focus at 2.90 a gallon. I now know the reason why I want to sell the Eclispe and keep the fofo.

You do know that water and gasoline is not soluble right? The gasoline will float on top of the water. This means that the pump system will only pick up the pure gasoline. The only thing the gas company would be doing then is displacing the gasoline with the water, effectively making their tank smaller in dimension. Why would they want to hold less gas? Doesn't make sense to me.

Water won't mix with gas, but it will blend with alcohol. IDK if an alcohol/water solution will mix with gas but it might...

That would explain the push to ethanol blends.

Anyone know if gas/ethanol/water will blend??

exaclty. unless your vehicle is designed to take advantage of higher octane gas, you dont need it. Some vehicles need it to prevent detonation because the engines are high compression, or have advanced timing. My vehicle is included in requiring 92+ octane. Most vechiles you "can" run lower octane in, but the computer if not distributor controlled will retard timing, or you could do it manually on the distributor. running lower octane in vehicles designed for higher octane will not run as efficient.

ye, a few people have told me about that...i just recently read/saw a video on that new Ferrari that made a trip from south america to US....and it made it through tough times with as low as 70 something octane gas, some kind of new fuel management system they have that can take low octane fuel.
