Does this make sense?

I'm trying to build a box for my Explorer. Its going to be close to 4 cu. ft. What I've got to work with is 20 inches tall, 17 inches deep, and 41.5 inches wide. Those are the deminsions.

Here is a quick drawing I tried to come up with to explain it though. I need some help figuring out tuning and if this enclosure will work like I want it to. I want it to be tuned to around 32-35Hz.



Basically what it is is I do not want the woofers and port to start until about 6.5 inches from the bottom. I'm going to be bringing a false floor up to there so I do not want the woofers or port to be under the floor if that makes sense. Hopefully someone will understand what I'm doing. Sorry for the poor examples but Paint was all I had to work with. If you have any questions or if you could draw this up any other way please do so.

Also the drawing on the far right is a side view. The woofer isn't sealed off in a seperate box, thats just showing the 6.5 inches below will be used for the overall space, just not the port and whatnot.

Ok the deminsions I gave earlier are the actual overall size of the box. Do you guys understand what I mean when I say I'm going to mount the woofers and have the port 6.5 inches from the bottom. So in other words, the overall look of the box in relation to where the port and woofers will be are going to be different. I'll see if I can draw up a better picture.

It's in an Explorer. I can go a little deeper, but the height and width are pretty set in stone. I'm looking at around 4-4.5 cu. ft. tuned to about 33Hz. Does my picture make sense though? Do you guys understand what I mean when I say the bottom 6 inches cannot be used except for airspace?

I think you will be better off building a box and sitting it on your false floor. Or I guess you can have the bottom panel of the box recessed 6.5". Either way, I dont think you should build the full box and then cover up 6.5" of the port opening. If you need the full space of your dimensions, I would look into some flared ports.

Nah its not like that, but I think I may end up just having the subs and port on the top. Would that make a huge difference in sound if the subs were pointed towards the roof and not the back hatch.
